Reading, writing, spelling, phonics and grammar are integrated into the Language Arts block.
Reading materials allow for and support differentiated learning. Materials include reading anthologies, classroom books for literature studies, spelling/phonics and grammar texts, and leveled readers. A technology piece accompanies the reading program, providing opportunities for support, review, and enrichment.
Writing instruction employs the format of the Six Traits, which includes Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. Journaling, poetry, fiction and formal composition, letter writing and expository pieces are explored.
Writing from our elementary students, even as young as Kindergarten, routinely appear in our award-winning literary magazine, Eagle’s Quill.
