Welcome to a week of Christmas reflections and cel Welcome to a week of Christmas reflections and celebrations! On December 8, our 5th graders led the beautiful Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel with the guidance of Mother Kristin and Senora Van Straalen. This chapel tells the story of when Our Lady appeared to a humble man, Juan Diego, to have a church built on the Tepeyac Hill in Mexico. The miraculous appearance of roses in winter convinced the Bishop that Juan Diego’s encounter with Our Lady was true - and the church was built. Special thanks to 5th grade for their memorable performance of this annual tradition.

Kindergarten led the assembly with the Pledge of Allegiance; 5th-8th grade bands played the national anthem; 5th-8th grade choirs sang a patriotic medley; Giuliana C. and Kaden B. demonstrated proper flag-folding while 8th graders Madison W., Anthony S., Sophia Z., Kiara R-B narrated the symbolic folds of the flag. Students heard about WWII experiences from Vietnam Veteran Paul Vernon; the school was presented a flag flown over Afghanistan from Lt. Col. Leif Nordhagen; students learned about the draft of the past and modern-day opportunities through ROTC and military academies from Major Jill Levy. A slideshow featured photos of military members in uniform and with their families - which the students watched with rapt attention. All military members were called forward and recognized with a certificate of appreciation. The band closed the assembly with a rousing "Eye of the Tiger" song!
