Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Posted on

We offer a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class for children aged four by or before September 1st. The TK class is limited to 12 students and is overseen by a lead TK teacher and classroom aide, in collaboration with our team of Kindergarten teachers.

The goal of TK is to promote strong social emotional development, oral language development, and foundational academics through intentional creative interactions. Students will have the opportunity to experience books, math and science. Multiple opportunities for purposeful play will be an important part of the routine. Students will have supervised, yet uninterrupted daily choice time both inside and outside of the classroom. Student-initiated work will be balanced with teacher-directed learning experiences that are shorter in length and infused with integrated learning and movement.

The TK class at St. Michael’s will serve as a bridge between preschool and elementary school, offering an extra year to acquire Kindergarten readiness. This program provides age-appropriate, developmental instruction in a caring and structured environment, including our ‘specials’ classes for physical education, art and music, Spanish language, and science.

The class is offered as a full-day program, Monday through Friday. To learn more about our Transitional Kindergarten program contact Jennifer Gould, Director of Enrollment at jgould@stmichael.net or (520) 722-8478 ext. 259. She’s available to answer any questions and to help guide you in the process of registering.
