We believe that learning works best as a cooperative venture between faculty and families. Consequently, parents are highly encouraged to be part of the learning process through frequent communication and collaboration with school staff, as well as attendance and participation in special events. St. Michael’s wouldn’t be the terrific institution it is today without the ongoing dedication of our phenomenal families.
Parents and guardians provide vital support for their children academically and emotionally. St. Michael’s endeavors to create a strong link between students’ lives at school and home. Teachers communicate with families on an ongoing basis throughout the year, and parents are always welcome to set up meetings if they feel there is a significant issue to discuss. The first parent-teacher meeting, scheduled at the start of each school year, is set up as an “intake conference” for teachers to learn about their students’ academic talents, social and emotional patterns, and home life. A more traditional parent-teacher conference in January allows teachers to report on students’ progress after the first semester has concluded.
Families also visit campus frequently for special occasions—from class plays and holiday concerts to sporting events and school picnics. Parents assist with these periodic activities, as well as volunteer routinely in the classroom. Our parent organization, St. Michael’s Angels, builds school spirit and raises money throughout the year to further the goals of the school.
